Carroll-Shelby-Owned Shelby GT500KR

The GT500KR is a perfect example  the spirit of the American automotive industry in the late 1960s. Only produced for the 1968 model year, the KR (King of the Road) featured the 428 "Cobra Jet" police interceptor V8 as opposed to the standard 428 in non KR models. Though officially rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque (down 25 horsepower from the standard GT500), the car actually produced north of 400 horsepower, underrated by the factory for insurance purposes. Both 3-speed automatic and 4-speed manual transmissions were available, with the manual being the more popular choice. This particular car was personally owned by non other than Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American, making it one of the most desirable cars we have on display.
